Early Years Foundation Stage
At Scott Broadwood, Early Years is nurturing, aspirational and creative. We aim to develop children who are independent, love learning and are curious about the world around them. Our enriching, child-led curriculum aims to build upon children’s previous experiences to give them the tools they need to flourish. In Oak Class, we build all round learners who develop physically, verbally, cognitively, and emotionally.
We enable our children to be skillful communicators, inquisitive explorers, and confident learners through a carefully planned and highly engaging curriculum. This is to ensure pupils are ready for Key Stage One and The National Curriculum. We are ambitious for all groups of learners.
Curriculum Goals
Our children are nurtured in an enabling environment which allows them to learn. The children can explore all areas of the indoor and outdoor environment independently, which helps develop their interests whilst providing opportunity for progression, extension, and challenge.
Fresh learning opportunities are continually planned through enhancements aimed at sparking new interests and with a key focus on developing subject specific vocabulary. Our resources provide a range of open-ended play opportunities, used to encourage imagination and active exploration. To further develop active learners, we teach the EYFS curriculum through themes that are inspired by the children’s needs and interests. Through timely observations, this allows us to develop children’s learning through enriched play-based learning opportunities. New vocabulary is taught through daily phonics, literacy inputs, a diverse range of stories, meaningful conversations and a rich provision set up to provide opportunities for talk, questions, explanations and time for children to ponder.
Adult-led activities are carefully planned to support and consolidate children’s understanding and planned challenges offer the opportunity to deepen knowledge and stimulate thinking. Our curriculum is rich and purposeful and ensures that all children make significant progress in all curriculum areas, so that they are equipped for learning in Key Stage One and Two and to ensure that they remain lifelong learners.
Our children are successful learners who are encouraged to take risks. The aim of our EYFS curriculum is to equip children with the skillsets to persevere and to use and apply taught knowledge and skills ready for their next key stage.
